Presenting Sbach Xtremeair 342
Mission

Modern two seat aerobatic aircraft, you have the choice how to use it:
  • Compete and exercise up to Unlimited competition acrobatics
  • Enjoy to fly two people in style with speed and range
  • Show a friend the wonders of speed and acrobatics
Equipment can range from “spartan-competition” to “luxury-leather” with high-end avionics, just ask us!
The aircraft will be certified under EASA CS-23 regulations.
Structure

Fuselage shells, wing, all control surfaces and stabilizer are made of high-tech carbon/honeycomb sandwich, manufactured in a wet layup method.
Surface protection is peformed by high quality acrylic paint.
Engine mount and control system is aircraft steel 1.7734.5
The whole airplane was designed using modern 3D-CAD, all of our tooling was CNC-routed.
All composite parts are fabricated in precise female molds to secure perfect symmetry and fit.
Controls

Stick and rudder controls for both seats.
Aileron and elevator control are actuated via carbon tubing.
Flettner-type elevator trim.
Hydraulic wheel brakes are actuated via toe pedals.
Engine (Throttle, Propeller and Mixture) are controlled via push-pull cables and very cool quadrant.
Wing

Symmetrical wing, airfoil strake of own development for crisp snaps and high cruise speeds.
For best possible safety the wing is a one piece double box main spar from wing tip to wing tip.
Each aileron is hinged on 5 points, and is equipped with spades to reduce control forces and enhance handling.
Empennage

Stabilizer and fin use the same symmetrical laminar flow airfoil.
All control surfaces can be easily removed for transportation and inspection in about 2 hours with two people.
All control surfaces are statically balanced according to flutter evaluation performed by Prof. Dr. Norbert Niedbal.
Fuselage

Fuselage has seating for 2 occupants, the Pilot in command uses the rear seat.
Canopy opens to the right hand side, an emergency jettison system is installed.
The rudder pedals are adjustable.
The seat is equipped with a 5-point aerobatic harness system.

Landing Gear

The aircraft is a fixed gear taildragger.
The main gear struts are steel spring type.
Tailwheel is mechanically linked to the rudder pedals, the wheel is solid rubber, 125 x 50 mm.
Mainwheels are 5 x 5.00 tyre size with hydraulic brakes.
Engine

Either the Lycoming Thunderbolt AEIO 580 L1B5 or 540 variant are available.
Christen Inverted Oil System
Dual oil cooler system
Fuel system

All fuel cells are composite, protected and sealed with a special certified tank sealer.
Aerobatic tank in forward fuselage, containing 50 Liters (13.2 US Gals.), including a header tank with a flop tube to prevent fuel starvation in fun attitudes.
For cross country flying each wing has a fuel cell near the root, containing 80 Liters (21.1 US Gals.) each.
Fuel selector switch shows „left“, „Acro“, „right“ and “Off“.
Propeller

MT Three blade mtv 12, hydraulically actuated constant speed, 192 cm diameter.
Governor is made by MT.
